Executive Positions
Nominations and elections were held for two vacant positions:
• Vice President – Trish Sales(Dragons)
• Statistician – Maria Lee (Dragons)
Field
The two possibilities for our fields this season are SPENCER (where we played last season) and VICTOR BRODEUR (which has been resurfaced recently). The majority vote at the AGM was to try to get Spencer fields again. Crystal will finalize the details before the start of the season; keep your eye out for a follow-up e-mail, specifying the field, schedule, dues, etc.
Referee
Sadly, Dale will be unable to ref for us this season as he will be moving to Salmon Arm for the spring / summer. With Coach T's help, Wanda will seek out a new ref before the start of the season. The new ref will be paid $25 per game for the first TWO seasons. If the ref has the League's support, he / she will receive $30 per game at the start of his / her third consecutive season.
Clinic
All of you should have received the e-mail I sent out about the FREE FOOTBALL CLINIC, which was held on March 3rd, at Spectrum High School, from 10-2. Thanks again, Wanda and Coach T, for organizing this event!
Marketing / Advertising
• Tara J. offered to talk with a contact at The Q and Maria L. said she would talk to someone at The Zone about radio advertising for our League. We would like to have a short 'blurb' about women's football in Victoria and how new players can get involved. Ideally, the radio spot would direct people to the VWFL website and e-mail account.
• Also, Bel (from the Bulldogs) said she would look into getting our football info into the military newsletter. Thanks!
• If anyone has other ideas on how we can promote and support our League, please let the Exec know! Send us an e-mail, let us know your plan! We need to get the word out in order to strengthen our League! Tell your friends, co-workers, sisters...SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Season
The season will likely start the second week in March, depending on the number of teams registered.
First Game
On the first Sunday, we need a FULL ROSTER for each team, including names, phone numbers and UPDATED e-mail addresses for your team. This is the team reps responsibility and should be handed over to either Wanda or Trish at our first game.
Website
We took a vote and everyone agreed that we should do a 3-month trial period (for an extra $10/month) to increase our website's capacity. We would like to include links, particularly for potential sponsors and also to other football events in Victoria. We would also include a photo gallery...each team is requested to SEND PHOTOS (related to V.W.F.L., of course!), to be added to the gallery. Thanks!
Tournaments
• Sunbowl – The famous Duncan tournament will be held on June 23rd-24th.
• Vancouver Invitational – The Vancouver tournament will be held on May Long Weekend. There will be a link on our website with the registration information.
New Players
If your team NEEDS PLAYERS, you MUST let me know, via e-mail to our VWFL account. I check the hotmail account regularly and there have been numerous inquiries from women who want to play football. Our goal is to have AT LEAST SIX, really strong teams. There is no point sending new players to a team that already has 14 people, especially if other teams are struggling to field a team every Sunday. It is the team rep/captain's responsibility to let me know if you want me to send new players your way.
Guideline Update – Time Outs
We took a vote to increase our time-outs to TWO 20 second AND two 1 minute time-outs per game. The guidelines will be amended to comply with this change.
